Salonika’s Lost Children – Σαλέμ Στέλλα – Εκδόσεις Επίκεντρο

After 8 years of research in the Thessaloniki Registry, we have found records of births for the years 1925-1936. We are still searching and trying to ascertain whether any of these children have survived. On this basis, we cross-referenced those data, checking through many other available archives and complementary sources. We have thus found out that around 500 of the Jewish children, who were born from 1925 to 1936, in Salonika, survived, while more than 10,000 were brutally killed by the Nazis, in Auschwitz-Birkenau. The loss sustained was greater in the pre-school cohort: less than 100 children of that group survived and more than 4,500 were assassinated.
